2008 Mission to Suriname

Suriname Cancelled

The Suriname team has been cancelled. I’m not sure where I’ll be going this summer. It looks like I’m going to Greece. I’ll update as I get more information from Teen Missions.

Suriname 08005

June 8 – July 29, 2008 Work/Evangelism

Serve the Lord in Suriname, an adventure traveler’s dream located on the northern coast of South America. Following Boot Camp training you bus to the Miami International Airport for a flight across the Great Bahama Bank, Puerto Rico, the Caribbean Sea and the islands of the Lesser Antilles, to Port of Spain, Trinidad.

A connecting flight takes you over the coastlines of Venezuela and Guyana before you arrive in Paramaribo, the capital of Suriname. From the airport, it is a two-hour bus ride through dense jungle and past former colonial coffee and sugar plantations to Camp Zion in Commewijine.

At the camp your project is to demolish termite-ridden dormitories and rebuild them, expanding housing options for the camp’s ministry. A trip is planned to tour a former colonial plantation that has been restored to its original glory from the time of Dutch rule. On weekends you will present the Gospel message in churches and outreaches using puppets, music, drama and personal testimonies.

While at Camp Zion, you will be housed in dorms and showers are available. Laundry will be done using a bucket. Enjoy bartering as you shop for souvenirs including hammocks, wood carvings, paintings and handmade crafts. You return to Florida for Debrief. (Note: Florida Beach Debrief)
